New Visitor Map Offers Lots of Information in a Small Space
Cayuga County, NY (May 27, 2008) – It’s a classic struggle in marketing: how to get across as much information as possible with the smallest possible footprint. Meg Vanek, Executive Director of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism, knows that challenge well. Vanek kept hearing from visitors that they needed a good map of Auburn and Cayuga County that would get them to attractions, restaurants, and lodging and they wanted that map to be free and easy to use and carry.
To achieve this goal, the Cayuga County Office of Tourism partnered with the Stardust Foundation and The Citizen newspaper to create a trip builder mini map with a full color customized map on one side and tourism information on the reverse which folds down to a credit card size cover. The convenient size of the map, when folded, lets visitors carry a lot of information in their pockets, wallets or purses and they are something that people tend to hang on to, partly because of the novelty, but also because of the amount of information contained in their compact size.
Vanek says the mini-maps, which were first introduced at the Cayuga County Office of Tourism’s National Tourism Week luncheon on May 15th, are a hit. “We have already had phone calls from people who attended the luncheon asking where they can get more of the mini-maps and walk-ins to the Visitor Center love the mini-maps, particularly because they offer a convenient way to keep valuable information at hand,” says Vanek.
Front-line tourism and hospitality personal will be coached in using this promotional tool to help patrons with way finding and locating entertainment and dining options. The mini-map will also be a useful tool for conferences, weddings, reunions, and other business and social groups.
The new trip builder mini map is currently available at the Cayuga County Office of Tourism, 131 Genesee Street, Auburn. Additional partners including the Fingerlakes Mall, Springside Inn, Balloons, Seward House, The Citizen, Holiday Inn, Inn at the Finger Lakes and the Pleasant Beach Hotel will also be distributing the maps in the near future. Other tourism businesses wishing to participate in the mini – map program should contact the Cayuga County Office of Tourism, 315-255-1658.
