8TH ANNUAL TOURISM PHOTO CONTEST UNDERWAY

 Owego -- Get out your camera and take pictures!  The 8th annual “Picture This!” Photo Contest, sponsored by the Tioga County Tourism Office, is officially underway.  The deadline for submitting photos for the 2009 Tioga County Visitor’s Guide is September 30, 2008 by 5 pm.   

First prize for the winning photo is $100 for best photo, and $50 for second and third place winners.  The winning photos will be included in the new visitor’s guide, and additional promotional brochure pieces, for which preparation will begin this fall.  Last year, some photos that were not winners were also used in the visitor’s guide and calendar of events brochure, as well as the Finger Lakes Travel Guide and other publications.

Specifically of special interest to the Tourism Office are photos in Tioga County of any outdoor activity, such as people having fun on the river, creeks, fly-fishing, shopping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, racing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping, festivals, porch-sitting, historic homes, golfing, biking, hiking, and people having a good time.  Scenic photos are also encouraged, but make sure they are photos that are unique to Tioga County.  Pictures such as close-up shots of flowers, family pictures, and generic-type photos should not be submitted.  Also, photos should be of places or activities open to the public and can be seen or visited by tourists.

Entrants are asked to submit their pictures for the visitor’s guide to the Tourism Office, 80 North Avenue, Owego, NY 13827 no later than September 30, 2008 to be eligible.  Specific contest rules for submitting photos are available by contacting the Tourism Office or check out the website at www.visittioga.com
